This Big Thing is recorded as still being here.
A strip-mall building at 19611 Ventura Blvd in Tarzana built in 1986-87 with its street-facing facade sculpted into the giant front end of a Cadillac Fleetwood -- headlights, grille, hood and bumper rendered at building scale, with the headlights originally made of neon tubing set into 600 glass bricks. Designed by architect Lee Oakes for the firm Matlin and Dvoretzky as "symbolic architecture" celebrating Ventura Boulevard car culture; despite the theme, the building has never housed a Cadillac dealership or car-related business. Originally painted pink like a Cadillac, it has since been repainted white.
