A 12-foot-tall fisherman statue holding a cod stands in the centre of Eastport, Maine, on Water Street. Built in 2001 as a prop for Fox's Murder in Small Town X, it was restored in the mid-2000s as a tribute to the show's winner, Ángel Juarbe, Jr.

FIELD GUIDE
The story
Eastport, Maine has a 12-foot fisherman on its main street, and he began life as a television prop.
According to the Eastport Area Chamber of Commerce, the statue was designed for Murder in Small Town X, a 2001 Fox reality series in which ten contestants gathered in Eastport, called "Sunrise" in the show, to play amateur sleuths solving a series of fictional murders. The University of Maine's Undiscovered Maine guide adds that the statue was cut from the show's budget but was made anyway, and became a local favourite for its goofiness and symbolism. Bangor Metro, in September 2026, describes it as a statue of a fisherman holding a cod.
