A large pink-frosted rooftop donut sign that has stood atop the coffee-shop building at 5560 E. 7th Street in Long Beach since the mid-1950s (originally for a shop called The Grind/Daily Grind). When Dunkin' Donuts acquired the property in 2014 and initially planned to demolish the building and sign, a local preservation campaign (including a 'Save The Giant Donut' Facebook page that gained nearly 1,800 fans within a week) led the company to publicly pledge to preserve it; a reported six-figure restoration project followed, and the restored donut was reinstalled atop the new Dunkin' Donuts location in time for its December 2014 opening. It remains a locally celebrated landmark of Southern California's mid-century roadside/programmatic signage.
