The Creede Fork is an aluminum sculpture about 40 feet long, resting at a 45-degree angle against a building outside the Cascada Bar & Grill and Cabins at 981 La Garita Ave., Creede. Local news credits artists Chev and Ted Yund and dates it to 2012, and a radio report says it was commissioned as a gift for the owner's wife. Reported weights range from 600 to over 800 pounds. It was reportedly built to outdo Springfield, Missouri's fork, and is billed as the longest fork in the United States.

FIELD GUIDE

The story

In Creede, Colorado, an aluminum fork about 40 feet long rests against a building and was reportedly built to be bigger than the one in Springfield, Missouri.
Sources differ on who commissioned it and why. Stuckey's says Springfield's stainless steel fork was built in 1997 to promote a restaurant and measures 35 feet and 11 tons, and that Guinness would certify it as the largest fork in the world. Stuckey's says the people who commissioned the Creede fork were looking to break the world record and knew it would not be special unless it was bigger than Springfield's. KMAX says Creede's was made to spite Springfield's, and a 2012 Roadside America tip says it was built to be larger. Stuckey's said in 2021 that Guinness had yet to determine the winner of the title.
