This Big Thing is recorded as still being here.
An enormous gaping shark head, built by Myrtle Beach-area novelty sculptor Bob Duato to appear to leap out at passing motorists from a billboard for Clearview Cable, has since been restored and relocated to the front corner of the associated store's parking lot. Duato became known throughout the Myrtle Beach area and beyond for giant novelty shark and animal sculptures -- including the 100-foot shark facade at Jaws Resortwear in Garden City and the vertical entrance shark at Pacific Beachwear on Old Highway 17N -- after the trend of using oversized sharks to draw attention to individual storefronts took hold locally.
