FIELD GUIDE
The story
Charlotte was a real emu who walked down the main street of Wondai, and the town built her a statue after a car killed her.
She was a free-roaming, near-tame bird known by several names – Eric, Emmy, Moo, and finally Charlotte – who strolled through town on a regular basis and was a regular visitor at Forest View, where she delighted the elderly residents. She was photographed walking the main street, and when she was injured in a car accident in 2014 and had to be put down, she was mourned publicly, with people sharing their favourite memories of her online.
