The story
Clarksville's giant pink elephant has a name, a pair of black-framed glasses and a history tied to the town's car lots.
Her name is a play on "car lot". According to WKRN, in a report updated in May 2026, Carlotta is a fibreglass elephant who first appeared in the 1980s and has been in Clarksville for more than 40 years. Clarksville Now reported in 2023, citing Leaf-Chronicle archives, that Curtis Johnson, who later served in the Tennessee General Assembly, was sold the elephant by a man hauling it through town when he opened his first car lot on Fort Campbell Boulevard. It drew attention, and a naming contest produced Carlotta.
