FIELD GUIDE
The story
Dillon Beach is a small coastal community in northwest Marin County, and its most conspicuous landmark, according to Marin Magazine in 2017, is a 13-foot bronze pirate with a sword, nicknamed "Captain Dillon".
That article said the statue was procured at a charity auction by the family that also bought the surrounding property in 2000, including a store, trailer park, cabins, restaurant and parking lot. The owners thought the figure an apt landmark and hoped it would bring families to hear pirate stories and dig for treasure on the sand. The magazine called Dillon Beach the only private beach in Northern California.
