FIELD GUIDE
The story
Two giant cows stand at the entrance to the Southwest Dairy Museum in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Buttercup is a Holstein and Creampuff a Jersey, and the museum's director of administration told the Sulphur Springs News-Telegram in 2021 that each stands 15 feet tall.
According to the same report, the Hinton family donated Buttercup in 1995 and the Texas Jersey Cattle Club donated Creampuff in 1997. A contractor from Mount Vernon repainted both in August 2021; they had last been painted in the summer of 2009, and, according to the museum, they are repainted as needed. "The cows symbolize the hard-working dairy farmers that the museum is proud to represent," the administrator said. The Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce calls them "the lovable bovine mascots of the Southwest Dairy Museum" and suggests a photograph with them.
