The story
Kulgera is the last stop in the Northern Territory. The South Australian border is about twenty kilometres further down the Stuart Highway, and there is not much between here and anywhere.
The roadhouse at 1 South Stuart Highway is the settlement, more or less, and it carries a giant beer can. In outback roadhouse terms that is a completely rational piece of signage: a driver who has been on the Stuart for hours is not looking for a restaurant recommendation, and an enormous can communicates cold, stop, here, in a form legible at highway speed through heat shimmer.
