FIELD GUIDE
The story
The wine bottle at Daly Waters is on the back of a vintage truck, which is entirely in keeping with everything else about the place.
The Daly Waters Historic Pub was built in 1930 and is one of the genuinely famous stops on the Stuart Highway – a corrugated-iron outback hotel whose interior is upholstered in decades of accumulated donations from travellers: hats, bras, thongs, banknotes, business cards, identification, foreign currency and assorted equipment nailed to every available surface. A giant wine bottle on a truck bed fits that aesthetic precisely.
