FIELD GUIDE

The story

A 16-foot-long metal taco, filled with metal lettuce, tomato and cilantro, sits in front of a restaurant in Casey, Illinois, a town that has built a tourism trail out of oversized objects.
The Big Taco stands at Cilantros Grill & Cantina, 25 NW 1st Street, on the south edge of downtown. The Journal Gazette & Times-Courier reported in May 2022 that the restaurant and the taco both debuted in Casey the previous fall. The restaurant's owner told the paper that "Everything is a 'Big Thing' in Casey, so we wanted to fit in town", referring to the world's largest and other giant objects that Bolin Enterprises of Casey has built under the "Big Things, Small Town" program. He chose a taco because it is an iconic image that matched the menu.
