The story
Casey, Illinois, sells itself with the slogan Big Things in a Small Town, and the Big Birdcage is one of the pieces visitors can step into. The town's attraction site lists it at 26 West Main Street.
Fodor's reported in 2022 that the cage is 8 feet wide and 10 feet tall inside and 13 feet tall outside, with a swing inside. It was made from used objects: a propane-tank end for the top, an old oil-field tank for the floor and sucker rods from an oil pump jack around it. Illinois Country Living wrote in 2017 that it hangs six inches off the ground and has a door visitors can open to get inside.
