FIELD GUIDE
The story
A giant blue-tongued lizard in Gallipoli Park is a gentler subject than most of what has happened to Marysville.
The town was almost entirely destroyed on Black Saturday in February 2009, when bushfires killed thirty-four people here and left very little of the built town standing. What exists now has been substantially rebuilt, and Gallipoli Park is at the centre of that – a heavily used public recreation precinct with walking trails and visitor facilities in a town that had to reconstruct its public spaces from almost nothing.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Current Big Things references place the sculpture in Gallipoli Park, and Murrindindi Shire confirms the park remains a heavily used public recreation precinct with walking trails, toilets and visitor facilities.
ACCESS
Navigate to Gallipoli Park on Murchison Street, Marysville. Murrindindi Shire maps the park at the stored coordinate and current regional visitor information lists a carpark. Use normal park parking on arrival; this site point represents Gallipoli Park rather than a surveyed parking bay or exact sculpture centroid.
