Installed in 2026, which makes this one of the newest objects in the entire catalogue.

Tank & Tobin Sculpture Works made the giant metal king parrot, and current July 2026 reporting together with the artists' own site confirms its installation and grand opening at the top end of Main Street in Eildon.

The subject is exactly right for the place. Australian king parrots are common through the forested hill country of Victoria's north-east, and the males are among the most spectacular birds in the country – brilliant scarlet head and underparts against deep green wings, entirely unmistakable. In the bush around Eildon they are a routine sight, and they are tame enough at picnic areas to land on people.

Colour is the reason the choice works at scale. Most Australian birds render as grey, brown or black-and-white at a distance. A king parrot gives a sculptor pure saturated red and green, which reads from the far end of a main street.

Eildon sits below the dam wall on Lake Eildon, one of Victoria's largest storages and the centre of a substantial houseboat and fishing economy. The town has been through the ordinary regional cycle of good years and bad, and a brand-new landmark at the top of the main street is a statement about the next decade rather than the last one.

Documenting an object in its first year is unusual for this catalogue, where most entries are reconstructed decades after the fact. The record here is complete because nobody has had time to lose it.
