FIELD GUIDE

The story

A giant harp stood outside a gallery on the Maleny–Montville road, in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, and at some point before 2023 it stopped being there.
It is one of the odder subjects in the whole catalogue. Oversized objects are overwhelmingly food, animals, tools or trade goods – things with an obvious commercial or civic argument behind them. A harp has none. It is not a local product, not an industry, not a mascot and not a joke about scale in the usual sense. It was art rather than advertising, which is consistent with its having stood at a gallery, and it made the hinterland drive briefly strange in a way a giant avocado would not have.

WHAT TO EXPECT
The oversized musical instrument was once a recognised Sunshine Coast Big Thing, but multiple later sources report that it disappeared from the site and was removed by 2023. The former address is known; its current whereabouts are not.
ACCESS
Historical listing only. Do not navigate to the former site expecting to see the harp: 926 Maleny–Montville Road is now used by an active church/community venue and the sculpture is no longer resident there.
