FIELD GUIDE
The story
A pair of oversized frogs that used to live at a masonry yard now sit in a hotel garden.
The sculptures were relocated from the former Get Stoned masonry business and are currently placed outside the Ramada Suites Zen Quarter Darwin, which remains operating at 6 Carey Street in 2026. Current specialist Big Things coverage places them in the garden there.
The original setting explains the objects. Masonry and garden-ornament yards are one of the great unrecorded sources of oversized sculpture in Australia – they cast large concrete animals as stock, display the biggest examples out the front as advertising, and when the business closes those pieces disperse into whatever hands will take them. A great many mid-sized Big Things across both countries began exactly this way.
That also explains the survival. A concrete frog is heavy, durable and easy to move with a forklift, so it tends to be rehomed rather than scrapped – unlike a fibreglass shell of the same size, which is fragile and worth nothing.
A hotel garden is a good destination. It is public enough to see, private enough to be maintained, and frogs suit a tropical courtyard planting in a way they would not suit a car park.
Darwin's wet season brings genuinely spectacular frog activity, so the subject is local even if the sculptures were originally generic garden stock.
The catalogue cannot supply a measured size, the year it went up and the builder.

ACCESS
Public-facing hotel-site landmark. Use the Ramada Suites Zen Quarter site as the visitor destination and respect hotel access and guest areas; the frogs are outside rather than a reason to enter private accommodation areas.
