FIELD GUIDE
The story
Oversized cricket bats at the entrance to a place that grows the timber bats are made from.
Cricket Willow at Shepherds Flat is the reason. English willow – the specific variety used for bat blades – was planted here, and the property has a long association with growing and milling it in Australia rather than importing clefts from England. That makes the bats at the gate a genuine produce sign rather than a sporting tribute: the same relationship a giant orange has to an orchard.
