FIELD GUIDE
The story
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary began with a beekeeper and his gladioli, which makes a giant beehive next door entirely appropriate.
Alex Griffiths came to Currumbin, became an experienced apiarist and flower grower, and established a garden of gladioli with twelve thousand named varieties flourishing in every colour, with neat rows of white-painted beehives among them. From those beginnings the wildlife sanctuary grew into one of the Gold Coast's principal attractions.
