This Big Thing is recorded as still being here.
Alley Oop Fantasy Land, a park beside the Pecos River in Iraan, Texas honoring cartoonist V.T. Hamlin, whose long-running "Alley Oop" comic strip (debuted 1932) was inspired by his work in the local Yates oil field. Anchored by "Dinny," an 80,000-lb permanent concrete dinosaur statue (the strip's pet dinosaur character), alongside a companion statue of the cigar-toting Alley Oop character; the museum/park officially opened in May 1965, with Hamlin attending.
