A 199-foot-tall steel cross stands at 700 US Highway 80 in Haughton, near the intersection of I-20, I-220, and Highway 80 just outside Shreveport/Bossier City -- among the tallest crosses in the world. Built by Central Assembly of God as a landmark for the tri-state Ark-La-Tex region, the $100,000 cross was completed November 4, 2009, after local zoning rules (which capped structures at 45 ft) were waived to allow it. At 199 feet, it is one foot short of the height requiring aviation warning lights.
