FIELD GUIDE
The story
A medieval siege engine built to sell pumpkins became a Punkin' Chunkin champion.
Yankee Siege is a trebuchet in Greenfield, built, according to the NH Business Review in 2004, as a promotion for a farm stand. The machine and a target castle on a hill stand on the opposite side of the road. The Business Review says it was built by trial and error with parts from all manner of junk, and that it was designed to throw up to 300 pounds, so it was geared down for the 8- to 10-pound pumpkins used in competition.
