FIELD GUIDE
The story
A grandfather clock 35 feet 10 inches tall greets visitors at the head of the Ahnapee State Trail in Kewaunee, Wisconsin, and it is still there because the town campaigned to keep it.
The Kewaunee Area Chamber of Commerce gives its height as 35 feet 10 inches and names it the world's tallest grandfather clock. According to the chamber, Richard Kohrt, then owner of Svoboda Industries, designed it to promote his newly named business and draw visitors to the town, and Jake Schlies built it in 1976 with his son Rodney as a gift to the people of Kewaunee. Travel Wisconsin describes it as a bicentennial project of Svoboda Industries.
