The Newby-McMahon Building, a red-brick Neoclassical structure at 701 La Salle St in downtown Wichita Falls, standing 40 feet tall with a footprint of only 18 by 10 feet across four floors, completed in 1919. Popularly known as the "World's Littlest Skyscraper" after a notorious investment scandal: promoter J.D. McMahon reportedly sold the building to investors from blueprints specified in inches, not feet, producing a 480-inch (40-foot) tower rather than the 480-foot skyscraper investors expected. Ripley's Believe It or Not! popularized the "littlest skyscraper" nickname in the 1920s.
