This Big Thing is recorded as still being here.
A 30-foot-tall, 15-foot-wide, 1,500-pound vampire bat sculpture, built in-house by Caufield's Novelty (Louisville's longtime theatrical/novelty distributor and Halloween destination) in 2004, is mounted on the corner of the Caufield's building at 10th and Main Streets. Official Louisville tourism material bills it as the second giant bat on Main Street after the Louisville Slugger bat a block away, and connects the choice of a bat to Kentucky's proximity to Mammoth Cave National Park.
