FIELD GUIDE

The story

Summerville, South Carolina, calls itself the birthplace of sweet tea, and the town's tourism office marks that with Mason, a tea container standing over 15 feet tall and holding up to 2,524 gallons. A June 2026 tourism page places Mason beside Town Hall at 200 S. Main Street, and says it celebrated ten years as a Guinness World Record holder, the record having been set on National Iced Tea Day in 2016.
The tourism office's earlier post says the town first set the Guinness record for the World's Largest Tea in 2015, that Lipton Tea quickly broke it after only a few months, and that Summerville broke the record again in 2016 by serving tea to the town from Mason.
