FIELD GUIDE
The story
Outside the Missouri Quilt Museum in Hamilton, Missouri, a spool of thread stands 22 feet tall. The Explore Hamilton Missouri visitor site says it began in 2018 as a community effort and continues to grow as visitors add thread.
The museum says the spool holds over a million yards of thread, added thanks to a donation from Aurifil, and invites visitors to bring thread and add to it. A September 2026 visitor guide by a Hamilton quilting retailer places it on the southwest corner of the museum property and says that adding a spool from home is the whole point.
