FIELD GUIDE

The story

Brunswick's concrete pecan once held the title of the world's largest, and it still carries the memory of a long-running nut rivalry with Texas.
Brunswick, in Chariton County, calls itself the Pecan Capital of Missouri, a title the city says was secured by state proclamation in 1972. Its annual Pecan Festival began in October 1980 and, according to the city, is held on the first weekend of October.
