The story
Betsy is a fiberglass sculpture of a Florida Keys spiny lobster, 30 feet tall and 40 feet long, according to WLRN in May 2025. Artist Richard Blaze completed her in 1985. WLRN reports that the statue was originally commissioned for a local restaurant.
She was then placed at another Islamorada attraction, Treasure Village. WLRN says she ended up in storage after that location became a charter school. Stars and Stripes and WLRN both report that she was relocated to Rain Barrel Village in 2009.
