World's Largest Corkscrew

A 24-foot metal corkscrew rises from the sign of the Corkscrew Liquor Store beside US Highway 2 in Hurley, Wisconsin, and Hurley lays claim to it as the world's largest corkscrew. State Trunk Tour notes that places in Vienna and Bangkok may disagree. Milwaukee Magazine reported in May 2026 that a metal fabricator built it in 1979 to draw attention to his new store. The Lake Superior Circle Tour says the owner reportedly welded it from stainless steel tubing, and places it about a mile west of the Wisconsin-Michigan state line. By the magazine's account the builder died the previous year and his family closed the business. The sign, still standing at the time of writing, was in rough shape from years of exposure to the elements, and its time, the magazine wrote, "appears to be short." The sign stands beside US Highway 2 at a business that has closed.
