The South Carolina Cotton Museum in Bishopville displays a boll weevil statue standing three feet tall -- dramatically oversized compared to the real insect, which measures only about six millimeters (roughly a quarter inch) and historically devastated cotton crops in the 1920s. The museum, established in 1993, draws roughly 9,000 visitors annually.
