FIELD GUIDE

The story

Wireman is a giant figure crafted from wire, and in 2022 WLOS described it as a sculpture that "mysteriously appeared one day in a mountain city". It stood outside Gallery 435 on Church Street in Hendersonville, North Carolina, and WLOS gave its size as 10 feet tall and 800 pounds. Every month or so it was dressed for the occasion: Santa Claus for Christmas, a pumpkin for Halloween, a graduate for graduation season. The gallery's director told WLOS that a crane placed it outside the gallery in the summer of 2021.
In August 2025 WLOS reported that the sculpture's previous owner was moving and that the sculpture had gone to Marquee, a market just off Lyman Street in Asheville's River Arts District that offers antiques, original artworks and home decor. A Marquee representative told WLOS the move took "about 10 of us" and a flatbed truck with a lift, and that people stopped to film and photograph it along the way.
