Two 30-foot bronze winged figures by sculptor Oskar J.W. Hansen flank a 142-foot flagpole on Monument Plaza at the Nevada end of Hoover Dam, according to a Bureau of Reclamation essay last updated in 2015. A terrazzo star chart records the date of the dam's dedication, 30 September 1935. 8 News Now reported on 19 February 2026 that the plaza had reopened after a restoration of the star map.

The story
The Bureau of Reclamation's essay on Hoover Dam's artwork, last updated 12 March 2015, says the winged figures are 30 feet high and that the monument has a 142-foot flagpole flanked by the two figures. The sculptor was Oskar J.W. Hansen, described as Norwegian-born and a naturalized American.
The essay says a terrazzo floor surrounds the base, inlaid with a star chart, or celestial map, which future viewers could use to determine the exact date on which Hoover Dam was dedicated. It records President Franklin D. Roosevelt's dedication on September 30, 1935. A plaque honouring workers who died during construction reads, They died to make the desert bloom.
