A bronze wildcat, 7 feet tall and 9 feet long, at Wildcat Alumni Plaza off Avenue of Champions, directly across from Memorial Coliseum on the University of Kentucky campus in Lexington. It was sculpted by Matthew Palmer, who also made the University of New Hampshire wildcat and the Texas State bobcat, and was unveiled in April 2012. Students later chose the name Bowman by campus-wide vote, honouring John Bowman, who pushed for a public university in Lexington during the Civil War. Early visitors made a habit of patting its head, rubbing its nose and stroking its paws, presumably for luck.
