FIELD GUIDE

The story

The ice cream stand at 1545 Amherst Road NE in Massillon, Ohio, is built as a giant soft-serve cone, and it reached Ohio in pieces from Florida.
The Canton Repository reports that the 25-foot fibreglass buildings debuted in 1982 and that roughly 90 were made for the Twistee Treat company, which it says was founded in North Fort Myers in 1983. The Repository, citing RoadsideArchitecture.com, says each cone is made of 19 separate pieces of fibreglass, which let a stand be assembled on a foundation on site. The company filed for bankruptcy in 1990.
