FIELD GUIDE

The story

Five flower forms, each 21 feet tall, stand in Dudley Park in Athens, Georgia, right beside the Firefly Trail. "Trail Blossom" is by sculptor Richard Herzog, who lists its materials as steel and Ipe wood. Athens-Clarke County says it was installed in 2018 as part of a SPLOST-funded project for the Firefly Trail, which passes by the sculpture and through the park.
The piece also incorporates three benches. According to the county, the flowers and benches take their elements from skateboards and bike parts; Flagpole, the Athens weekly, says the design reflects the park's connection to the nearby trail.
