'The Hubbell' is a 12-foot-tall, 15,000-pound brick sculpture in the shape of a giant wheel, standing on its edge like a coin with a framed slot in its center resembling a door; diagonal brickwork across one face gives it a sense of movement despite its mass. Built by Columbia stoneworker and artist Jefferson Jay Hubbell in the backyard of his own home, the piece was donated by his family as public art following his death, and relocated to the Five Points neighborhood of Columbia, South Carolina, where it was unveiled in 2019.
