The story

Austin, Minnesota, is Hormel's hometown, and in September 2022 a 25-foot fork sculpture was unveiled on the lawn of the company's headquarters. The Big Fork, also called The Power of Food Sculpture, is made from nearly 20,000 forks that belonged to Hormel employees around the world, each of which Hormel says represents a team member.
The Austin Daily Herald reported that the idea began about two years before the September 2022 dedication, as company leaders looked for a way to honour the part food plays in people's lives. About a year into planning, employees were asked to bring in a single fork without being told what it was for. The commission went to artist Gordon Huether of Napa, California. Hormel says the sculpture was designed and fabricated in Napa and trucked to Minnesota by semi; Huether's studio says the internal structure was fabricated in Germany and shipped to Napa, where welding the forks on took team members nearly a month, before a roughly 2,000-mile delivery.
