FIELD GUIDE

The story

The fence is a map of the Stuart Highway, and you read it by moving along it.
Susan Dugdale's 2008 work runs along the railway edge of central Alice Springs as an abstract representation of the highway from Port Augusta to Darwin – about three thousand kilometres of road, compressed into a length of fence, incorporating Indigenous art and designed to be experienced while walking, cycling or driving past.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Academic heritage documentation records Susan Dugdale’s 2008 Stuart Highway Fence as an abstract representation of the highway from Port Augusta to Darwin incorporating Indigenous art and designed to be experienced while walking, cycling or driving.
ACCESS
Linear roadside artwork intended to be experienced along the Stuart Highway. There is no single attraction arrival because a centroid stop would be misleading and potentially unsafe.
