Strawberry Water Tower

Poteet does not hide its crop: the town's water tower is called the Strawberry Tower. The Pleasanton Express reported in November 2020 that the city had the tower repainted under a maintenance contract with Maguire Iron, and quoted the city administrator: "the Strawberry Tower is an icon and the staple of the city." Texas Public Radio ran a photograph of the tower, supplied by Maguire Iron Works, with its April 2026 story on the Poteet Strawberry Festival. The Texas Legislature's 2025 resolution says the Poteet Rotary Club staged the first festival in April 1948 and that the event draws 100,000 visitors a year. The Senate and House adopted that resolution in May 2025, redesignating Poteet the official Strawberry Capital of Texas for ten years from final passage. The resolution dates the town's strawberry growing to 1911. Poteet is a little over a half-hour drive south of San Antonio on State Highway 16. The tower is part of the city's water system, so it is a sight to take in from outside.
