The story

Tulsa's Route 66 has a space cowboy, and since June 2024 he has had a space cowgirl for company. Stella Atom stands outside Buck Atom's Cosmic Curios, a souvenir shop in a restored 1950s PEMCO gas station at 1347 E. 11th St. KJRH reported that Buck Atom, a 21-foot space cowboy, has stood on the east side of the building since 2019, with Stella on the west side.
The shop's owner designed her. Oklahoma Magazine reported that she follows the tradition of the Uniroyal Gals, giant fibreglass figures first made for a tyre maker in the 1960s, and that Virginia fibreglass artist Mark Cline oversaw the shop's statues and shipped them to Tulsa. KJRH described the details: an Oklahoma wildflower on her boots, a Route 66 belt buckle and a Tulsa flag on her back. It credited Bartlesville artist Josh Waddell with her jet pack and ray gun; Oklahoma Magazine says Tulsa-area creators made those accessories and her bracelet. The owner told Oklahoma Magazine that yellow butterflies on the boots recall her mother. 417 Magazine describes a red fringe-trimmed dress and bandanna.
