FIELD GUIDE
The story
An 18-foot figure of a 1950s rock 'n' roll singer stands where Alabama Avenue meets North Montgomery Avenue in Sheffield, the first of the Singing River Sculptures honouring the music of the Muscle Shoals area.
The marker in front of it records that it was erected in 2012, names the City of Sheffield and credits Audwin Pierre McGee as sculptor. Colbert County Tourism says the series is sculpted from recycled aluminium, and Alabama Small Towns & Downtowns says the series honours both the area's musical heritage and its aluminium industry.
