FIELD GUIDE
The story
When it was dedicated in 2009, the Selden truck was the fifth and final of the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor's Roadside Giants, oversized objects built by career and technology centre students along the route in Pennsylvania. Students at the Franklin County Career & Technology Center designed it, and the dedication was held on Tuesday 9 June 2009 at Shatzer's Fruit Market on US 30, according to Lincoln Highway News.
The corridor describes it as a 1920 Selden pickup with empty fruit crates on the bed, recalling the fruit stands that lined the highway and Franklin County's agricultural ties. Lincoln Highway News described it in 2009 as 11 feet tall and 2 tons, with a hood sign reading “Lincoln Highway Fruit Growers Serving Franklin County Since 1907.” The York Town Square blog gave the original as a 1921 truck and the replica's size as 11 feet tall and 26 feet long.
