The story

Rocky the Flying Squirrel and Bullwinkle the Moose were dedicated on a traffic island at Sunset Boulevard and Holloway Drive in West Hollywood in 2020, near where they first appeared on the Sunset Strip in 1961. The city's collection page, archived in 2025, lists them as a permanent installation.
According to the City of West Hollywood, the statue is plaster, fibreglass, paint and steel, credited to artist Bill Oberlin and dated 1961. Deadline, reporting its return in 2020, wrote that the statue dates to 1961 but that its original creator is not known. The city says 5,000 people gathered on 24 September 1961 outside the Jay Ward Productions studio at 8218 Sunset Boulevard for its unveiling, and that it was built to parody a bikini-clad, spinning showgirl on a billboard for the Sahara Casino across the street. The city describes the statue as 12 feet tall; Deadline gave 14 feet and 700 pounds.
