A pink fiberglass elephant wearing black wayfarer sunglasses stands at University Motors on Charlotte Pike in West Nashville, continuing a landmark tradition begun in the 1980s when Roy McPherson of the former McPherson Motors erected the original 12-foot elephant (a classic FAST Corporation design) on the same property. When University Motors took over the site, it commissioned a new elephant because customers kept asking for it; the current statue has stood for roughly 18 years and become known locally as 'the pink elephant on Charlotte Pike.'
