FIELD GUIDE

The story

The Pine Man is made of the thing he cuts down.
He is a forestry worker rendered at large scale in treated pine, with metal, rubber and leather for the working details, and he stands in the Leith Place Talking Pole Forest beside State Highway 1 in central Tokoroa. The Rotary Club of Tokoroa commissioned him, and South Waikato District Council records the sculpture as dating from 2004.
