A 15-foot fiberglass Paul Bunyan statue stands at the Chamber of Commerce in Manistique, Michigan, according to a 2025 Northern Michigan History article. According to Michigan Blue, it replaced a 43-foot plywood cutout made for the town's 1960 centennial, which a windstorm wrecked in the early 1970s.

FIELD GUIDE
The story
Manistique's Paul Bunyan is a replacement for a much taller one. According to Michigan Blue (2015), the original was a 43-foot plywood cutout built in 1960 to mark the Manistique Centennial. A windstorm blew it down and damaged it beyond repair in the early 1970s. The magazine says it was later replaced by a 15-foot fiberglass statue in front of the Schoolcraft County Chamber of Commerce on US-2, and Northern Michigan History, writing in 2025, describes that fiberglass version as standing at the Chamber of Commerce today. Awesome Mitten, a Michigan travel guide, gives the lost sign as 42 feet and dates its destruction to around 1975. Manistique is one of several Michigan towns with a Bunyan statue, alongside Oscoda, Ossineke, Alpena and St. Ignace.
