Paul Bunyan (Don's Hot Rod Shop)

A fibreglass lumberjack at a Tucson street corner was long a landmark, and in early 2025 local media reported his future was uncertain. The statue is a 20-foot Paul Bunyan, one of the giant fibreglass figures known as Muffler Men, which the Arizona Daily Star says were made in the 1960s and 1970s in styles including cowboys, Vikings and lumberjacks.

KOLD 13 News reported in January 2025 that the statue had stood on the corner of Glenn and Stone since 1964, and that, according to the City of Tucson, it was driven to Tucson from San Francisco on a flatbed truck after being bought for a local auto business. KGUN 9 reported that a 20-foot molded lumberjack cost $1,275 plus shipping at the time, and that it was bought as advertising for a hot rod parts business. The Daily Star says it was bought to bring attention to an automotive store.
