FIELD GUIDE

The story

One-Eyed Jack was installed in 2018 at the corner of Marshall Way and Indian School Road in Old Town Scottsdale.
Scottsdale Public Art describes a 26-foot-high painted steel sculpture weighing 20,000 pounds, by Tempe-based artist John Randall Nelson and fabricated at R.J. Ruff & Co. in Phoenix. It lists the work as completed in winter 2018. Its origins go back to 2014, when business and property owners along Marshall Way formed a stakeholders group to secure Scottsdale City Council funding for an entryway feature that might encourage people to explore the street. After what the programme calls a lengthy public input process, Nelson's proposal was chosen, in part for its eye-catching design.
