The story

Old Car City asks a simple question of the visitor: what happens to a scrapyard when nobody scraps it? In White, Georgia, the answer is a forest full of cars with trees growing through them. Curbside Classic, writing in April 2026, described a 35-acre site presenting approximately 4,500 cars "lounging in the Georgia forest", with seven miles of walking trails. The operator's own website gives more than 4,000 classic cars, more than six miles of trails, and a founding date of 1931, and calls the place the world's number one junkyard, a claim that is the operator's own; a directory listing uses the phrase largest known classic car junkyard.
According to Curbside Classic, Old Car City began as a general store in 1931, with auto salvage added several years later. The current owner, the son of the couple who opened the store, quit selling parts in the 1980s as he was realising more business from charging admission to visitors. The site was a salvage yard until the mid-1980s, the same writer notes, and the cars were delivered because they had been classified as scrap. A 2017 travel guide described the property as still family owned and operated, with handwritten signs displayed around the land as folk art, and a welcome centre with items for sale and a styrofoam cup art museum.
